our manifesto

The Working Theatre Collective is an ensemble based company that is dedicated to producing new works and other theatre worth the effort.  We focus on aggressively artistic, DIY productions in unexpected spaces.  We are interested in creating theatre that is working to establish a home in the hearts of the artist and the audience. Through working to produce art we find the heart of living!

ashley likes to ride bikes, drink coffee, stay up late, get up early, make vegan baked goods, talk about theatre, and read in the sun.

for the WTC ashley directs plays, organizes things, makes gel holders out of pie plates, introduces folks to other folks, makes props out paper and string, and makes ridiculous excel spreadsheets.
ashley is a doer of things. fact.

Likes cheap wine. Hides notes he writes to himself in his clothing, only to be found after washing.  Pretends a lot, sometimes for money, sometimes not.  He'll probably pretend for you... if you want.  Today he can't make a right decision to save his life.  One day he hopes to discover something, anything, new... and put a flag in it.  Oh, to dream.

our story

Nate and Ashley had always talked casually about starting a theatre company. In the summer of 2008 Nate and Ashley were drinking beer in a tap room on a summer afternoon.  They decided that it was time to stop talking about starting a collective and time to start doing it.  They wrote down what was important about theatre to them and what they hoped to accomplish with the art form.  By the end of happy hour they had a name and a manifesto.

Four months later, Ashley joined Nate in Portland, OR.  They gathered other like minded artists and got to work.
a maker and teacher of all things pretend. On any given day you may find him pedaling to the far reaches of portland and beyond to work with the youths of america. For WTC noah designs sound, directs things, devises stuff, and has been known to do some acting.

noah thanks small beer, chips and salsa, and all the lovely people in his life
nate owns several guitars, a broken laptop, his bicycle, and a handful of power tools.  He likes coffee, beer, and vegan nachos.  He works in a bar, hangs out in bars, and writes plays that take place in bars, so, you know, whatever that means.  nate is a member of both NoNa and NAsh.
“It’s nice out, but there’s work to do.”
Natalie reads a lot, drinks tea, walks around, writes stuff down, takes some pictures, wears wigs, likes garlic, makes vegan pie, and lives in New York.
For The WTC Natalie hangs out in garages, bakes underwhelming cookies, and reads e-mails from afar.
My bio usually goes something like "Eva lives, writes, drinks and rides her bike in Portland," because I hate bios and the awkward pressure they present.  Are we looking for more than that level? Are we going for the fancy "I was very important and useful" kind of bio?

In other news, it's almost five thiry and I still seem to be lacking pants. Time to get dressed, eat something, then, look out world!
noelle loves Portland, theater, old dresses, and people with a passion for art.   when not doing theatre she is on a wild quest to find the best IPA in the world.

For the WTC noelle acts, finds folks to act for us, and prints lots of things.  she likes to fax things.  not for the WTC, we don’t have a fax; but in general she likes to fax.

Sunshine, down comforters, dichotomies, lace ...and, of course, THEATRE! These are all things that Lilli loves. Besides being an actress and designer, Lilli is also a musician (vocals/guitar/piano) and visual and stained glass artist. She also enjoys learning to do circusy things such as spinning fire and unicycle. Lilli aspires to teach the next generation of theatre lovers, and plans to go to grad school one of these days.
